Questions on Monitor/Headphone Setup for CuBase VST Studio

I recently started putting together a CuBase VST 3.7 studio. I'm using a Behringer Eurorack MX1604A mixer, and running it into the ST 24/96 audio card which comes with the CuBase Studio Pack. After much experimentation I finally got it to start recording a few things.

However, my question concers how I should run my monitors and headphones. Currently my monitors (M-Audio Studiophile SP-5B's) are receiving inputs from the CTRL R out's on the Behringer mixer.

I'm confused as to how I can record a track, then listen to it in the headphones when I want to playback track 1 and layer a second track, and then switch to my monitors when I want to mix/listen to all tracks when I am done. Can someone help? Thank you!

Not familiar with your mixer. Isn't there a volume control knob for the CR connection.

I'm using a Mackie. In addition to the main faders, there are seperate volume controls for the Headphone and Control Room connections. When I want to record, I just turn down the CR volume control.

Darned Mackies...always showing me up :) The Ctrl-R and Headphones are controlled by a single volume knob, unfortunately. But the CTRL-R out goes into the sound card, so I think my configuration might be messed up.

I say this because right now I'm running my mics into the mixer, the CTRL-R outs on the mixer into the analog in on the sound card, and the sound card analog out into my monitors. So it seems to me that my headphones aren't entering the system at the right point (post-sound card?).

Anyone have ideas on what I'm doing wrong, or what the "proper" connection for this system might be? Thanks again...

What other outputs do you have on the Mackie?

I have a Behringer, Eurorack MX 1604A. The outputs on it are as follows:

Main Output (R/L)
Alt 3-4 Output (L3/R4)
CTRL-R Out (R/L)
Headphone out

The soundcard (Steinberg ST 24/96) has only one input and one output (both stereo TRS 1/4" jacks).

There are also 2-track in/outs on the mixer, but they are RCA ins & outs and I wasn't planning on using them.
