Hello. I purchased firebox few days ago and I took it out and connected with the computer today. I followed all the steps that the manual suggested and I even downloaded patch from presonus' website since I have windows xp sp2. Yet, when I try to finalize the installation process by "pluggin-in" my firewire cable and hit next button, the screen just prompts back to the final step. And of course, the light stays in red. I don't know if this is a product malfunction or my computer. I have intel pentium D 2.8 (dell 9100) and 1gb of ram. I hope this is something I could fix easily so I don't have to ride subway for 2 hours for exchange. Thank you in advance!

well bro, i had the same problem with my firepod. i mean exactly the same problem!!! i tried and tried, and called for tech support and everything. i just had them give me a new one and it was fine. i'm sorry to say that i'm sure it IS in the hardware. but depending on the company you bought from you could force them into paying for shipping and sending you a new one... plus a mic or something... cause that's what i did!!! i bought from musicians friend. worth a try bro.

Did you download that thing from microsoft for problems with firewire and sp2?

Thanks Jacobi. Ok, I bought mine at guitar center which is physical store of musician's friend. So, it is a hardware malfunction... Yeah, something fishy about this product is that, this one didn't even have a installation cd inside of a box.

yes, i did. where you asking me???

hmmmm... that is really wierd... my firepod came with the old installation disc. i used it, but i also downloaded the new one from the firepod website and put it on a disc in case i ever need it.

another weird thing about my firepod is that every now and then, input 2 doesn't work at all... it's really really weird. i was thinking this might be because if you plug in an input in the back it automatically overrides the XLR on the front... BUT!!! there is nothing there... weird.... must be some kind of loose wiring.

out of the subject, why can't i start a new thread, it won't let me post...

well... did you click new thread??? i don't know man... not without being at your computer anyway.

Well, sure enough, it was hardware malfunction. I took it to guitar center and tested with their computer and didn't work too. What struck me more was that my particular firebox didn't have cubase LE, ac adaptor, and other softwares. Anyhow they exchanged it, no problem. I bought mpc 1000 on that same day and it was also a bad unit, I guess I had a bad shopping day. :)

As long as they exchange it and you can get it up and running, it's all good.

I have been using my Firebox for almost a year I think. It has worked great. If they ever make the patch that will allow you to connect two Fireboxes together I will get another.

you can't daisy chain them via firewire cable???

It is not avalible yet. I emailed presonus and they say they are working on it but the guy didn't say when it would be ready. It would be my guess that they don't have it in the plans these days. It is however possible with the Firepod and the Inspire. Go figure. :(

I thought the same thing. How much different could the Firebox be from the Firepod as far as something like this goes.

The guy from Presonus didn't come right out and say they weren't working on it but he didn't seem to know when it would happen. If you go to the Presonus site and compare the 3 firewire units it says the Firepod and Inspire can be chained but for the Firebox it says "coming soon" or something of that nature.

well screw it... let's just do it ourselves!!! hehe

nah, i like presonus... just wish i hadn't ever had any problems with my firepod.
