we don't need rest!!
not being part of this compilation, I still have questions/comments.
Is this being prof. duplicated or something?
Are the graphics being prof. done?
Is this looking to raise a little money for Dragon?
How does this differ from the mp3 clinic?

I am a 'member' of a smaller group called demo-exchange. They rotate people who head up the compilation CD's. Up to now, we are on DX16, which just came out....not to mention CD's that came in between (like dx12.5, for instance...like a Christmas CD theme, covers theme, etc..) Usually we wait until a CD is full, then call it quits for that CD. Then they get mailed out, and are critiqued online. So...about 20 CDs (and earlier...like 4 years ago, just cassettes), have been compiled. Admittedly, since the advent of high speed internet, and MP3 files, things have slowed down a bit...and there are only really about 20 active members...if not less.

Another really cool thing about this group is about twice a year, they get together at a pro studio, and record everyones song in the course of a massive weekend long session. It is really more for fun, socializing in a cool environment, and getting drunk (in your fav. way:D ). And..CD's usually come about from these "summits" too. Some of it actually comes out being pretty good. I would say about 8 "summits" have happened over that last couple of years, in places like Nashville, Chicago, New York, Portland, and Albequerque (sp?). About 12 songs usually get LEARNED and recorded.

anyway...just a couple of questions and my internet compilation experiences.....and telling of friends I have met all over the country via the internet and music. It's been a blast.

It is being professionally duplicated, yes. Jackets are not being professionaly printed but should look good anyway. Proceeds are going to Dragon, yes (or they may be used to keep the project self-sufficient). The CD is multisession, and includes some semi-cool features like info about the artists (those who supplied info) and famous threads...stuff like that.

I look at this first CD set as being more novel than functional. Most of the guys on it were the guys who have been with the BBS from the start. It's just sort of a cool thing to have is all, and is totally non-profit of course. So far only between 50 and 100 sets (2CD's each) are being planned, and they will run at $20+shipping. Duplication and CD printing should be in progress next week.

It is my guess that future comp cd efforts will be considerably less crazy and run much smoother. What you're looking at here is the tail end of a project that had some shining moments, and a lot of "what the hell is going on?" The material on the comp CD is rather old because it was started a rather long time ago. There are 20 contributors, some of whom you'll recognize, some of whom you won't.

Technically I think we might raise enough money on this one that future projects could be stamped on real CD's and all professionally done up. That was sort of one of my long term goals for it. Sure it's just "home" recording, so it's supposed to be amature....but I think a lot of home recorders are trying to get to a better place...to be better than "just home recorders"...and it would just be neat.

But I'm rambling now. After the final CD ships I am out of this project so where it goes will be up to the group.

That demo-exchange group sounds pretty cool.
