Questions about RCA cables

Is there a maximun lenght you can run RCA cables from say, a mixer to a soundcard?

Also, is there anything wrong with using adapters to attach the cables together to get more length?

When you get over 10 to 15 feet with unbalanced audio it can be a problem.

So would it be better to use 1/4" balanced cables out of the mixer into the sound card? It's a 24/96 sound card with RCA inputs so I'd need some kind of adapter?
