Yo, just got a mac mini and a saffire pro 40, however, I can't seem to get them to work together properly. I installed neccisary drivers and interface will record audio from my mics into certain software (garage band and ableton live) but it will not send playback to the monitors. Playback is sent to the internal mac speaker or headphone out. The interface is not even recognized by presonus studio one.

For the record, yes, EVERYTHING is connected properly and recieving power. Interface is conected via firewire 800, monitors are connected to the interface via 1/4 cables.

I don't know jack about mac computers, I have owned one for less than 24 hours. I have used this interface an other interfaces with success on windows computers using a variety of DAWs. I don't know what the problem is. Here is a video to further explain the problems.

I appologize in advance for the crappy camera and poor linguistic skills

on a completely irrelivent note, how difficult is it to learn to use pro tools if I have lots of experience with other DAWs? (namely Ableton live, Studio One and Garageband)

Hella props to anyone who can help me out

I'm guessing you need to go into the settings of each program and set the audio output to the Pro 40.

The saffire does not appear on the list of devices, on any software, as in it is not an output option. The only options that are displayed are system default and internal speaker/headphones. When I try to configure the saffire so that it is an output in the system preferences, it is not available to be selected as an output, only as an input.

Might this have something to do with my firmware being os x 10.8.1? According to focusrite the mixcontrol version 3.1 (which I have installed) is supposed to support mac os x 10.8 but maybe this isn't the case?

I have literally spent 8 hours trying to fix this problem to no avail. Apple is not looking so hot right now...

I'd contact Focusrite support. I've dealt with them before and they tend to be really helpful with issues like this. I can't figure out why it might be acting this way, but maybe they'll know.
