There's a weird rattle coming from my amp - seems mechanical, only happens when I play certain notes. It sounds like it may be coming from the reverb tank. Can the springs in the acutronics tanks come loose and possibly/maybe rattle against the metal casing?

Just did a quick google on amp rattle and got a ton of hits. Seems the tubes are the most likely culprit.

I had one of those that confounded me for an hour or so. It turned out to be a beer can in a metal trash can near my amp. ;^)

Okay I'm 90% sure it's the Accutronics tank. I took it out - surprisingly easy to do - and I've had no rattling whatsoever. I'm guessing I can jsut buy a replacement and swap it in, no worries?

I remember on one of my older amps with spring reverb that the springs had stretched and they caused that problem. I believe I had to replace the reverb tank too.

Hey Tony! I was actually just about to rattle you off a PM about this. I'm trying to decide whether the problem is with how the tank is mounted - loose screws etc, or whether the tank itself is defective.

I've a poor understanding of the basic concepts here, but what exactly would cause the rattle? Does the way in which a reverb tank is connected (simple send and return from what I can gather) mean that any ancillary noise will be put back through the speaker?
