Question regarding PATTERNS IN MASCHINE

Hi every body. I just bought a maschine and I'm finally learning to record I'm just trying to figure out the difference between regular pattern length and pattern length when you press the grid button. Any help would be highly appreciated.

The grid only deals with the quantization and ppq. The patterns deal with bars, or how many time you hear four "beats" repeat.
