hey, first off im sorry if this is in the wrong forum, if it is please point me to the right one.
I've been lookin at the mx1604 for recording to a stand alone 8 track machine.
Im pretty sure i under stand how to record with it, but what about mixing down, since the recorder probly will have 8 outputs, will i need another mixer, or can i use this one. I've been looking at the inputs and the controls and it dosent look like I can. if i can will you please explain how.

this may look like a stupid question, but hey, there was plobly a time when you didnt know stuff like this. right?
and besides it is in the newbie forum.

thanks.

The MX-1604 won't be a good choice because you only have 2 stereo subgroups and no individual channel outputs.

i use the mx2004 with my eight track, so i can record up to 8 tracks at a time using the channel inserts (this is explained int the manual).. then to play back i just unplug the mics and plug in the recorder..

the 1604 will limit you to only 4 mic pres (so 4 mics at a time) and you will only have four channels of eq with a sweepable mid... the other four are fixed e.q.s.... finally the 1604 won't leave you any strips for aditional routing

so i think a few extra dollars will go a long way here

either the MX 2004 as explained above, or the UB1622FX Pro will work. The UB1622 has inserts in the mic channels, so you can get 4 direct outs there, 2 more from the main outs (L R), 2 from the sub groups, and another 1 from teh Aux 1 if set to "pre"....and the UB series has better mic preamps than the MX series.

The UB1832 is even better with 6 channels with mic pres and inserts for direct out, and another 4 stereo channels, plus 2 outs from mains and 2 from the subgroups. This also leaves channels open to monitor the return signals.
