Question on virtual instrument and midi keyboard

I would like to make a cover for the song I favourite without using any instrument but I don't really good in playing music instrument for the song. As i see from most covers, they usually mix their own music using midi keyboard. Is that possible for me to compose a song by just using the virtual instrument in certain audio production software such as mixcraft or music maker(playing with the computer keyboard) without using any midi keyboard? Thanks. =)

Yes, you could program the piano rolls (midi editors) in any sequencer program.
Or you can write a song in a notation program and import the midi into the sequencer.

But you'll find that getting any kind of performance that isn't robot-like will be difficult.

Midi records your performance actions and there is a lot going on when a keyboardist bangs the keys.
