I just picked up the 424MkIII and need to get the low-down on "mix down"
I'm not sure, but do I need another (two track) machine to complete the process of mixing!?.. In other words how do I record the beat and vocal so it can be heared (when played back) in both the Left and Right speakers? Feed back apreciated.... ez...

Well you pan l or R to rec (trk1-L, trk2-R,trk3-L ,ect) when you play back put the pan 12 o'clock (stereo). If your not done tracking there is a stereo/mono switch for monitor output you put the switch in mono to hear the playback in both speakers.
When your all done tracking you will need a external device to mixdown to.(minnidisk-tape deck-cdr burner) Tape decks are pretty cheep these days like a $100 for a sony.

If you want to make cd's, I would suggest using your computer for mix down (transfer multiple tracks to a 2trk stereo image, as on consumer CD's/tapes). You'll be able to do some cool editing that way, too. Connect the 'main outs' of the 424 to the input of your soundcard, put the recorder in 'stereo', make all desired adjustments (levels, pan, eq), and record it onto the pc.

mix down

hey nun,
if you don't want to or don't have the stuff to use your computer,
get a stand alone cdr recorder. the 424 will connect to it and you can burn your mix. I do this and it works very well. If you do this make sure your levels are right because the cdr will enhance you signals.
