ok so i am almost totally new to recording besides off of my little 4 track. i would like to get into recording more and i am planning on just setting up a small "studio" if you will, in my basement. i know im kinda jumping into things but i would like to be able to have hands on experience with recording instead of just learning out of a book. so i think i would like to buy a kit with everything needed. what i found was this:

is this equipment descent? and if not do you have any suggestions for me on what i should buy?

remmeber that i dont want to just record guitars. i am friends with A LOT of bands and would like to help them out. so i would be recording bands..... if that makes a diffrence... i think it does...

well yah. any imput would help alot

For $1299 you can probably do better.

Do you own a computer?

yah i own a computer. but it is a laptop. does that matter too much?

the Fostex line...

The VF160 is a phenomenal machine. Very solid, with terrific sound. If it was me, I'd buy things piece by piece. A VF160, 2 Studio Projects mikes... I think if you ask around you can flesh-out a more hand-picked system. But the Fostex VF's are great (VF80/VF160).
