Question on Audiophile 2496

I'm considering getting a audiophile 2496 to solve my latency problems with the soundblaster live and have better audio quality.
I've noticed that the jacks on the audiophile are RCA connectors. My "monitors" are my computer speakers which accept normal 1/8" connectors (as to sblive card). Do I have to buy some sort of convertor if I were to use the audiophile for my speakers outputs?

Also, I've noticed that the outputs seem to be stereo (1 output for each side). However, my computer speakers only accept one input. How do I go about this?

Thanks!

I tried kxdrivers and asio4all and wasted my entire morning installing and uninstalling them. They crashed Sonar 4 and I had to reinstall several vsts and dxis before it started working again. I think I'll take the hardware solution, I'll get better performance anyway. Thanks for your help!

Yeh, there's some latency in the Soundblasters that can't be worked around and the KX drivers can be troublesome if you haven't managed to completely remove the Creative files. ASIO4ALL ought to be more straightforward, but it needs a working driver to connect to.

Did Sonar actually crash (shut down) or was it just complaining that the soundcards were in use or not supporting the required format on startup? It sometimes does this until you get it's audio options changed to suit the new card and run the profiler. And it might crash anyway if you try to play without the correct profiling done.

Agreed the Audiophile is the better solution, but do be aware it doesn't have any midi sounds of it's own, only connectors for external midi keyboards/synths.

Hi,

Sonar just crashed completely and windows asked if I wanted to send an error message to microsoft. For ASIO4ALL it was working well at first, until I restarted my computer and tried it again. For Kx it just crashed.
Another question here - using my SB live so far I have been using a 40ms effective latency to play soft synths. Is it my imagination or am I hearing the sounds a bit later when I play my midi keyboard? It's a bit of a pain especially when playing bass on my keyboard.
What is the effective latency that is acceptable then? Will the audiophile be able to achieve this?
My latency is horrendous with Guitar Rig when I want to hear what I am playing through guitar rig. Any lowering of the latency bar causes pops and clicks. Will getting the audiophile solve this prob too?
Thanks.

Hi, if I'm not wrong, this card does not have onboard sounds of its own, right?
Other than not having this, what else will I miss if I replace my sb live with this? (I only have 1 pci slot left)
Can somebody answer my other questions above this post too, thanks!

You will miss a distorted and muddy playback. The Audiophile will sound so much clearer it will be like pulling a blanket off of your speakers.
As far as latency mine is about 5ms. Anything under 15ms shouldn't pose a problem.

Yeah the 2496 is going to allow less latency, it will give u MIDI I/O, and also you will get a better quaility sound.

Thanks for the replies.
Any experience with Guitar Rig or any similar program with the audiophile 2496? Are you able to get satisfactory performance from it?
