Question from a new midi user

Hey everyone, I have been recording with Cubase LE and a tascam us122 for a little while now, and i recently bought the m-audio pro keys 88 and want to make the jump to midi. The keyboard has a usb output which i have used successfully, but since i don't own a soft synth with a realistic piano sound, i want to use the piano sounds on the pro keys 88 and record them as midi files. Using midi cables, how would i connect to my us122 (what would i plug the midi in and out from the prokeys into on the interface?) and what would i set the midi in and out to in cubase le? thanks for the help...

I don't use Cubase, but all you need to do is hook up your pro keys to the us122's in and out via 2 midi cables and make sure cubase can see your keyboard. There is probably something in preferences withing cubase to set your controller,

using the USB or midi cables will make no difference and the results will be identical since the USB is simply a built in USB midi interface. In cubase, set up a midi track and an audio track set the midi track midi input to the prokeys and the midi output to the prokeys, turn on the monitoring. On the prokeys, set the local to OFF (check manual on how to do this). For the audio track, connect the audio outputs to your tascam, direct monitor through the tascam, not cubase. Play the keys and make sure you can see the midi being routed to cubase and back to the prokeys (it should play normally). Record the midi track, edit to liking, play back the midi track and record the audio. Thats it
