This is crazy.

The circle of producers, engineers, and studios I work with are all thinking about switching from Pro Tools to Nuendo. I'm not talking LE in all cases, I'm talking 2 mix systems and one HD system also!! But the engineers have been reviewing Nuendo and all agree that the mixbus is better than full blown Pro Tools. So if they do this, I will probably be switching my home setup to Nuendo also, so I have some questions if you would please help me out.

First off, I have Full Compass here with me, and I see several hardware options. They call some of these "Core" cards, but they do not have dsp's on them do they? Are the Steinberg HW just soundcards? So all processing is still done by the PC?

Do you HAVE to use the Nuendo HW with the Nuendo program? If not, what HW are YOU using with Nuendo, and are there any preferred soundcards for it?

I don't quite understand the AudioLink components and their use either, any of you use this?

Does Nuendo not work with MOTU gear? I think Steinberg has historically had issues with MOTU. It would be nice, because we have lots of MOTU gear around the studios from endorsements.

What OS's are you running sucessfully with Nuendo?

Any input is appreciated!

thanks,

It makes no difference (except the converter quality and other soundcard-dependant factors) which soundcard you use with Nuendo, so long as it's compatible. The Nuendo/RME stuff is great because of its zero CPU usage, low latency, and great converters, but that's just because of the soundcard itself and would be the same in any ASIO program.

My MOTU 1224 works fine with Nuendo. I've never heard of problems between MOTU and Nuendo, and I couldn't see why there could possibly be any, so long as the MOTU is working in the computer in the first place.

Good info to know.

Mind you, these guys are used to Pro Tools, where hardware and software are dependant, and exclusive to, each other. I am the one guy who actually runs something other than Pro Tools, even at home, so they have already started asking me the questions....which is why I ask here :) Just so I am one step ahead of the big guys and I look good :)

As far as converter quality, they're looking at Apogee, Lucid, and Drawmer stuff. If they sell those Digi systems, they'll be planty of $ for great converters. I'm thinking the Lucid ADA8824 looks good so far, for mid-level converters....anything better than the Drawmer box out there?

I can't asnwer all of your questions, but...
In my box Nuendo happily works with Delta 1010.

nuendo is a great sequencer. i believe switching from that protools to nuendo is a great choice for these people. It is definately a greater program than protools.

nuendo as far i as i know works with just about every major soundcard. i believe it has the same compatibility as cubase. maybe a little bit more.
