Hi John, just a couple of quick questions...

1)I've been going over your most excellent designs, specifically, the corner control room back corner: Now, I get the idea of the bass trap in the extreme end of the corner, but what about the rest of the back corner walls? It's a pretty big corner, so I was wondering what kind of treatment should be there...
Should it be a slot resonator?

2) What kind of treatment on the cieling? Specifically, over the mix position... Should it abosorb, diffuse, or both? Should I just go cloth covered insulation over it, or would you reccomend something else?

Absorption on the walls but you can place a diffusor in front of the trap dependent on room size.

What kind of treatment on the cieling?

depends on what you are doing with the floor. If you are carpeting make it reflective, if timber, absorption.

these are just generalisations - I'd need to see the whole design you have to be more accurate.

cheers

I was wondering about a diffusor in front of the trap!

As for the cieling/floor combo, what you're saying makes sense.

I haven't got a design yet, but I'm planning on applying your "corner control room" plans to my 20 by 24 foot space.

One final question: Your plans call for soffit mounting the monitors. I understand the principals involved, and it seems like a good idea. However, I have nearfields. (KRK V8's) I thought soffit mounting was reserved for mainfields.... could I get away with mounting these?

thanks!

I'd build the soffit mount but make the speaker section large enough to expand to a full mains system. Then make a smaller speaker mount inside it and try your KRK's out mounted. ;)
