I record vocals with a GrooveTube AM52 mic, through an Aphex 107 mic pre. Once in the
my VS2480, I do a track export, and take the wav files into the computer. There, I use the Waves RCL compressor, and
the Waves DeEsser. I usually compress pretty massively. I use the Waves vocal preset for the compression, and sometimes take the threshold down to as much as -40 dB. There really is no way to just write the settings down, because they will be different for every vocalist.
I also silence any part where the singer isn't singing, to take out room noise, etc.
After this, I bring the tracks back into the 2480, and usually compress again, infinity to 1, and the threshold depends. I then use a high pass filter to roll off everything below about 80-100Hz. I do any other EQ adjustments needed, which usually for me is adding a bit of high end: 1-3 dB shelving from 2, 3, or 4 KHz and up.
Then mix them in!
Hope this helps at all....
