I have a question about installing a new pickup in the bridge position.

In my strat, Tone 1 effects only the Neck Pickup,
Tone 2 - the Bridge Pickup,
and Middle Pickup is “Wide Open”, No Tone Control.

how will that affect the installation of a new seymour duncan in bridge position? do I have to mention this to the guitar shop before they do it?

not at all. they'll know what to do. it's really a simple job...connect the wires of the new pickup where the old one was connected. polarity is the only catch but pickups come with wiring diagrams so if you have soldering skills you could do the job yourself.

enjoy the new pickup. =]

Hey, good luck with the pick-up, but while you're here, would you care to explain your name?

If your other pickups are Fenders, you might want to remind them that Fender pickups are wired polarity reversed compaired to Seymour Duncans. Shocks the hell out of me how often I find guys who should know better who either don't, or who just forget.

OK, it shocks the hell out of me how often I have to go back and reverse two wires cause I forgot.
:o

Other than that, no worries.

Oh, and my name is my poker-room board name, plus it's my other job. I keep trying to get them to change my board name to Grand Poo-Bah, but they won't do it.

What about yours? I mean telepaul is easy but 30-20-blues?? I just love wacky races and 600 is my lucky number.

Yep, Tele is my name and Paul is my lucky number.

what do you mean by "polarity reversed"? i dont know much about these things

32-20-Blues. Dammit, nobody get's that right. :D

And it's a Robert Johnson song, one of my favourites, about what a man's gonna do to his unfaithful wife. 32-20 refers to the, emm, size of his gun. ;)

Skip James wrote it, I think, but he called it 22-20-Blues. Johnson just increased the tempo and the shotgun gauge.

Usually, there's a black wire and a white wire, and one means positive and the other negative. Apparently, Fender color codes theirs backwards from the rest of the world, like JBL does with their speakers.

Well, really it just means that Fender colors theirs in reverse to Gibson, but everyone else followed the Gibson standard. Fender is just doing it like they always have, but the crux is that if you are putting (say) a Seymour Duncan pickup in with a couple of Fenders, you need to wire the Duncan backwards from what their diagram says.
