Hello All,
I have been using Cakewalk products since DOS versions. I now use Sonar XL 2.2.

How are you guys timing up stuff. I mean sometimes I can record some midi tracks and quantize them and they come out just fine. But most of the time if I do not play the midi notes exactly to timing (metronome) I cant never get them to jam up without having to go into the piano roll and moving stuff around.

I wish I could get Sonar to time things up like say a MPC2000 or something. The MPC just jams anything right to time on the fly.

Drums have been my biggest problem with all of the Cakewalk versions. I have read this and read that , but I must be missing something. I seem to be the only person who has ever mention this. How are you guys timing this stuff up?

Thanks

Malcolm

You could try to use the quantise as a real-time effect on the MIDI-track.

Just a thought...

would that be before or after recording? Or both.

I would put it on before recording. Then you can hear the mis-quantisings... :)

Ok thanks,

I have also been searching through the older posts looking for more insite on Quantising. I found a few posts on the topic.

I guess I need to put more attention on learning how it really works in regards to certain BPMs. Sometimes I can do a beat and just hightlight the whole midi track and go to Quantise and select 16 and it comes out just fine. But on the faster beats or when I may use offbeat Snares or Kicks, quantise just doesnt jam them up. Never though about using it as a plugin real-time effect though. That may be how a MPC2000 works. Whatever setting, resolution, etc that they use for that machine I would love for Sonar to work the same way or similar.

I usually grab about 8 bars and loop them them and record my drums as the loop goes on. Then I seperate them into seperate midi tracks.

But overall,, I have always been pleased with the Cakewalk products. Well everything except the timing issues. It's kinda embarrassing when the MPC2000 guys come in the studio and I try to convince them how they would benefit using Sonar. LOL

Thanks Man

Malcolm
