As indicated rep points mean nothing - the people on this site who are knowledgable and share that knowledge in a kind and helpful manner are recognized and respected - that is the true measure of a reputation.
On the other hand, some people (who I have yet to see post anything of value) appear to have a billion rep points - since I look at the rep points as a meaningless system, I've never bothered to learn how the system works.
Regarding being a newbie - the number of posts appears to change one's status. Again a relatively meaningless measurement - since some people have hundreds, perhaps thousands of post, yet they contribute nothing of real value.
However, there are very many people on this site who are knowledable and helpful - (and who pick and choose when then feel they can contribute) and I for one am honored to share a community with those people.
I will only suggest one key thing to you (being a newlie). Always use the search function before asking questions. There is a wealth of information available on this site and most questions have been answered (often more than once). There are few things that frustrate some of the longer term members than seeing the same questions asked over & over.
Welcome to the site - I think it is a great community to share knowledge with (well....at least some of the community

)
