im thinking of buying the wharfs 8.2a actives...

right now i have an onboard sound card...so can i just plug those in directly into my box

and i soon will be buying an E-MU 1212M Digital Audio System...would i need to plug those into that?

yes, you can plug directly into your soundcard. Try to use BALANCED xlr connectors, as they give better signal

Er, no, you can't. He's talking about onboard sound. At least, you can't do it without great difficulty in multiple layers of adapters. Onboard sound uses a single unbalanced stereo 1/8" jack, and the wharfies have dual mono balanced 1/4"/XLR jacks.

If you can figure out some way of adapting the cables, it'll work, but it'll be a mess and not really worth it considering onboard sound won't do any justice to the speakers at all.

well my onboard sound card supports 5.1..does that help any? well if i cant plug it into my onboard..what CAN i plug it in to? does the EMU have XLR?

it is definately possible, and it will work.

you need a cable that goes from stereo 1/8" to dual 1/4".

yeah but will it sound shitty? and what about the EMU that im buying..will that have XLR or no? and if it does..what cables do most preamps run on? cuz i will need to plug the preamp into the EMU aswell

well, it will sound alot better than any "computer" speakers you will ever buy

I used mine this way until I got a better soundcard. I came out of the built in sound card on my laptop right to the monitors. 1/8" stereo to dual RCA. You can buy that cable anywhere. Radio Shack, Walmart, Target, pretty much anywhere.
