I own a roland VS880EX and a Korg D8, Both with MIDI out/in/thru and SCSI ports.
Is there any way to "synchronize" them, so I push REC in one and they both start recording or playing?
First you choose which one is a "master" and "slave". Let's assume that VS is master - you have to make all necessary settings active (MIDI Out, MTC, etc - it's all in the manual). DO the same on another machine - I just don't know what exactly buttons to press Of corurse, connect MIDI Out of "Master" to MIDI In of "Slave"
If you need to record simultaneosly on both machines, press Rec then Play on "Slave" - it will be waiting for incoming MTC. Then Press Rec and Play on "Master" - they both start recording. To play back what you've recorded follow the same procedure except pressing Rec - first push Play on "Slave", second push play on "Master" - They must start together.
Of corurse, connect MIDI Out of "Master" to MIDI In of "Slave"
