I just got an SR16 drum machine. I went to the velocity page to try to change the sensitivity of the pads, and I can't tell the difference at all between soft, med, and hard. Is there some secret to this? Do I have to change screens or something else before the effect is heard? The "fixed" positions made a difference, but soft, med, and hard all sounded the same.

Right now, I have to WHACK the living crap out of the pads to get a good volume.

What gives?

Thanks

New or used SR16?

I have one I've had for about 12 years (and used the crap out of it), and the pads don't have the same sensitivity they used to (harder to push for sounds).

This one is about a year old. My brother-in-law bought it brand new and didn't use it (he's one of those people who has money and buys things on a whim all the time and never uses them). So he gave it to me. I'm pretty sure the thing has less than 4 hours use.

Yo Beagle:

Look in the manual and find the page that tells you how to reset the SR-16.

Push the buttons and then try the pads to see if they are louder.

If that doesn't work, then run the drum machine through a mic pre and then into your recorder--that should give you more BOOM, much more.

Make sure the drum box volume is turned up. [I'm sure you did that.]

Or, trade in the box on a Boss 880 and have some fun. Sweetwater takes trades.

Happy Thanksgiving,

That's normal.... mine has been like that since day one. I just always kept it on "soft" and just got used to how to hit it... I haven't used it as an actual drum machine in about 8 years -- does get used as a click track/metronome quite often though!

Your best bet with thismachine is to use it as a sound module. It's not half as friendly with "song" programming as the HR16 was, so just set the sounds you like once and then fuggetaboutit. Use a midi keyboard to play the sounds, it will be a lot easier to get real feeling out of it and control the humanity of yoru drum tracks that way.

Yeah, when I used to use it for it's sounds (back in the early 90's), I'd create my midi drum tracks by playing the kits from my keyboard - never really liked the pads but I must say, even though not as sensitive as they used to be, they still work after all these years.
