i have a shure sm57 and i'm planning on buying a behringer eurorack UB802 mixer. i'm keeping it fairly simple, but i do want decent sound. however, i still have the standard factory soundcard.

will this be ok? will the mic/mixer setup work when i plug it up to my soundcard, or is buying a nicer soundcard absolutely necessary? i know it would be a good idea, but i'm trying to avoid it for now. i just want to make sure i can buy this mixer and record with no problems. thanks.

Well ... a lot depends on your ability. The recent example of this on this forum was a guy called Dracon who bought a Behringer UB802 to use with his standard soundcard. Immediately he could hear hiss and noise that disappeared when he moved to a Yamaha MG10/2 mixer. They're highly superior to the Behris.

Despite this, Dracon still wasn't happy with the sound he was getting and so he bought a new M-Audio sound card. Bam - 'no' noise and clearer recordings.

On the other hand, Chris Harris has done some pretty special recordings on a Sound Blaster. Your mileage may vary ... I say you need to be looking at an Audiophile 2496 and if possible the couple of extra quid to get the Yamaha mixer.

Yeah, y'know I still wouldn't be rushing for that cheapest E-Mu ... the M-Audios have a good reputation for solid drivers ... anything from Creative does not.
