Maybe he can't.??????????

tapping ?

maby he is not into tapping ?? does that make him less of a guitar player ?? i can think of a few other great guitar players that dont tap .... page, perry, betts, rosington, i cant think of any tapping solos from them ?? maby i am wrong ?? ................ i never tap :D

to tap or not to tap ?

not that i cant tap........ it just is not my style

he probably can, i as well, dont like tapping. i can appreciate it but its too busy for me.

I'm sure he probably could tap if he wanted to, but it just doesn't seem to fit his style. I don't tap much myself, I just never really cared for it a lot. Usually the only tapping I care to do is a one note tap over a bend. I think that sounds awesome, but I'm just not really into much other tapping. It's all personal preference/style.

I read an interview with Slash that said because so many people were into that EVH rip off mode in the 80's he specifically went against that. He said he pulls out the taps live if he thinks it necessary but in all reality, where does tapping fit into his brand of raunchy blues?

If you listen to ZZtop's Tres Hombres album from the 70s you can hear Billy Gibbons tossing in some tasty fret taps years before EVH hit the scene. And that album is definitely spiced with raunchy blues!

to be fair, didnt evh invent his tapping style based on the heartbreaker solo?

Tapping is lame. Well, when I heard Eruption, I was blown away. Everything since then sounds like "Turn up the Radio". Strictly high school guitar. Plus, you have to look at the guitar to do it, so it's impossible to look cool. Clasically-influenced rock guitar goes hand in hand with the worst of the genre: eye makeup, tight leather pants with cod pieces, and piles of permed poodle fur.

Heartbreaker.

Thought to be the first solo to feature tapping.

And I don't wanna hear it about EVH. So just don't even go there. I'll throw down. Honest I will. :D

EDIT: I just saw Olfunk's post.

Anybody CAN tap. But I've never heard Slash do it live or on album. Tapping is kinda silly unless done by the one, two, or three dudes who really made it their own style.

I saw Robby Krieger doing the tapping stuff once and it was pretty funny. But he actually made it fit somehow.

Slash was way too cool to tap. EVH, must wear some kind of special medallion or something because everything about him screams cheese until you hear him play. Not even the tapping can break thru the powers of his special medallion.

Tapping rules. You just have to do it with some style.

"Eruption" style tapping sounds lame as hell these days, but alot of people do some amazing stuff with tapping that bears no resemblance to tired old 80's techniques.

Watch this, specifically the lick at about 38 seconds. If a guitar lick could give me a boner, it would be that one.

Have you ever met a guitar player that can't tap? It's not really a skill that takes decades to master.

I thought it was kind neutral in it's gayality. It didn't blast my radar but I did feel the urge to pull on a pair of spandex.
