question about mixing..help please

i just had my band recorded and mixed just at a persons house. i've got the burned cd of the recording and how he mixed it. i was wondering if there was anyway to rip this on my comp and mess withit myself? i just need to make the vocals a little louder and those kinds of things.

If the recording has already been mixed down to two tracks (L/R stereo), then you will not really be able to separate out the individual parts for any revisions. You should be able to apply some eq or other effects to the entire mix in any wave editor or multitracking software. Boosting certain eq bands will make the vocals louder, but will also affect the other instruments in the mix.

If it was recorded as an "audio" CD (i.e., a CD that plays in a CD player), then the answer is no. Essentially it has been mixed down to a 2-track stereo mix, there is no way to get back the original tracks. Sort of like trying to take a cake and turn it back into eggs, milk and flour.

However, the guy who mixed it should be able to give you the individual tracks.
