Question about Mixer Bus's

I have noticed when assigning tracks such as guitar to a bus on my Mackie 32.8 mixer, the track gets thicker when you add it to more and more bus's, similar to doubling a track when recording.

I have never recorded off of the master output of my mixer so I have no idea what the end result is by adding a track to multiple bus's like that.

I have always ran my direct outs into my PC and done the mixing from there. Everything else was just reference while tracking.

Assuming I were mixing through my Mackie 32.8 board, would this be useful in any way to thicken a sound or does it just create layers of loud messy tracks?

Each time you add a buss at unity gain, the guitar increases in volume another 6dB. Turn the channel volume down 3dB and the Buss Master volume down 3dB at it will sound identical to just one channel with the fader at Unity gain.



Doubling tracks in a DAW, same thing. You can try this for yourself. Have a group with one track by itself with the fader at unity gain. Then, have a group of two tracks, each with it's fader down 3dB. Compare the sound and level of the two groups using your group solo button. You will find that they sound IDENTICAL.
