I just bought Audiophile 2496 and in the manual it says "Each jack is female RCA, compatible with common male RCA".
So which cable do I get? the female OR the male?

It says the jack is female, right? So you get the cable with male ends. I've never seen a male RCA jack on a piece of gear. Do you see male or female jacks on your 2496?

i think that technically a "jack" is female by definition. (Maybe they should have called it a "Jill" instead to avoid confusion). The male counterpart to a "jack" is called a "plug".

I'd explain why they are referred to as male and female, but I think I'd get embarassed!

Oh come now!! We're all adults!!!

I was a slow learner and it took me awhile to realize that with XLR outs are always male and inputs are always female. I finally stopped having to double check every time I grabbed the cable. :D
