Hi guys, I am thinking about recording some vocals on my computer and sounds from a QS8.2 synth keyboard and I have a few questions before making the purchase. Heres the URL to the specs because I dont fully understand them. http://www.midiman.net/products/m-audio/mobilepre.php

1.Would getting the M-Audio MObile Pre USB for my computer and a Shure m57 microphone be a good idea? Like can the mobile pre power the microphone good enough?

2.If I get the MobilePre, can I record sounds from my QS8.2 Synth keboard and my microphone?

3. Would I need another sound card so I can playback my records from my computer speakers or does the mobilepre have the ability to do that with out another soundcard?

THanks guys in advnace :)

1. A SM57 doesn't require phantom power. It's a dynamic microphone.

2. At a first glance you can record 2 channels at once. To be sure: Download the manual (!!)

3. This thing has outputs so you can connect it to an amp + monitors.

Really... A manual is not just for people who already own it.

i owned the m-audio duo (usb mic-pre) and i had major problems with it. i dumped it because of hiccups and noise burts during recording and got the tascam us-428.

i thought the duo sounded good as a pre-amp, but you couldn't monitor the instrument being recorded AND the playback from your recording software at the same time with zero latency.

what i mean is. you can either monitor your recording with zero latency, OR monitor the recording via software with the playback tracks.

finally, neither the duo nor the mobilepre record in 24 bit. only 16 bit. other usb-recorders like the us-428 and the digidesign m-box, and the edirol UA-5 all record in 24bit.
