This has probably been asked before, but the search function didn't turn up anything, so here it goes:

I'm having trouble recording multiple tracks. I'll record one track, no problem. But when record a second track, it will be several beats off from the first. I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the latency/buffer settings on my editor software, but I'm not sure how to set it properly.

I'm running through an M-Audio Fast Track USB, using several different audio editors, including Cool Edit Pro 2.0, Audacity, and Kristal.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

there are all kinds of reasons this can happen... how much system ram do you have?? 2 gigs is helpful.... are you useing a second drive dedicated to audio??? this is a biggie... what else are you running at the time??? check your systray... anything besides the interface active on that usb??? there's some things to check for starters...

For Audacity at least, there's latency in the software itself. Check the documentation (FAQ I think?) and they've got a note about it in there. I found that every new track I recorded was delayed by about .2 sec.

Make sure you are useing ASIO Drivers and Not WDM or DS Drivers as they will produce a lot more Latency.....With ASIO drivers I get a Latency of 23ms (not even noticeable) and I have a Slow 2.4ghz 512mb ram PC with only one Hard drive and I have no problems recording 10 tracks at once....

Cheers
