hello all. I just have a quick question. I'm thinking about spending my paycheck this week on some KRK 5s. long overdue since I've been buying everything else for my home "studio". my question is, should I save up a little more for the 8s instead? I dont have "accustomed" enough ears to tell the real difference and I plan on using whatever I buy for quite a while. is it worth spending a bit more?

I'd save up even more and go with something ---- nicer.

Your monitoring (and the room - *PROPER* room treatment is absolutely essential) is far and away the absolute most important part of ANY recording rig. Nothing else even comes close. Every single decision you will make will be based on the accuracy and consistency of the information the monitoring chain provides your brain.

For sure, 8's - at least (or MTM's or what not). Something that can actually reach down into the most problematic areas. 5's are going to be pretty worthless.

Get the best you can - especially if you don't want to buy twice.

Having owned both the 5's and 8's, and compared side by side in my treated room, I would definitely hold out for the 8's. I actually prefer my Event TR8's to either. Found them used for $300.

The 5's are pretty hyped in the low end, and are not very accurate in the midrange. The 8's are better, but still lack clarity.
