The Anti-Lambo
My keyboard player just bought a microKorg. He is currently using a 76 key Roland ep 7 II and an 88 Key Yamaha DGX-500. Both the Roland and the Yamaha have MIDI outputs.

The microkorg apparently doesn't allow more than 4 keys being played simultaneously.

Can he use either the Roland or the Yamaha as a controller that would basically use the brain of the microKorg and then have microKorg sounds from the 88 key platform with the ability to play more than 4 notes simultaneously?

He likes the big chords. It's part of his style.

I guess the alternative is just using the microkorg to alter the base sounds of the Yamaha but the yamaha is kind of lame.

well anyway, the limit is still 4 notes.

If the polyphony is limited to 4, then nothing you are going to do will exceed that. Using the MK as a midi tone module is not playing to it's strengths by any stretch of the imagination. There's a ton of JV series modules with 64 voice polyphony out there for a pittance. Ebay is your friend.

Yeah, my keyboard player doesn't have a pittance right now. He scrounged up $100 for the MK despite protestations from the spousal unit. JV-2080s seem to be about $275 used. I'll plant that seed but it's gonna take time to grow.

But in the meantime we are happy with the MK sounds. That thing can do some cool stuff! And when he needs larger chords he can still fall back on his old yamaha.
