Question about hard disk recorders

I've been looking at the Tascam DP-01FX. Can I hook up active monitors to that? Is it a good idea to use active monitors as opposed to your regular desktop computer speakers(mine are pretty good though, Klipsch)? How does it work? Do you record into the Tascam, then from there attach a USB cable and transfer what is on the hard drive to your computer's hard drive, then use a sequencing program like Sonar to enhance your recording?

i have that dp 1 fx its good equipment i have two berhinger ms20 nearfield monitors they sound good .i record tracks then thru usb i send them them to cpu . but im thinking my tracks could be better if i bought a hard ware compressor to go with it i mean it has effects but no compressor otherb than that its a good piece of equipment
