Question about EQing

Ok I record hip hop/ rap vocals and i was woundering what i needed to do when EQing my vocals. I have never EQ'ed anything since i have been recording mainly because I didnt really care about quality to much. I truly need to know as much as possible... like what are lows, mids, highs... some good settings to put them on. And last but not least i need to know what am i looking for when i EQ like what sound eash settings do to my vocals when I listen to them. and please dont say Eq untill i sounds good

This *specific* question has been answered a few times in just the last few weeks. For whatever reason rap vocals seem to be a mystery to the rap home recording community. I wonder why?
