If I have 24bit wav files loaded into Sound Forge 5.0 and burn a CD, does Sound Forge automatically dither down to 16bit, or does it just truncate? Anyone know?

If you have Soundforge 5 just dither it down yourself. It does a great job and offers you a few different noise shaping options as well.

Right, it'll make about any file you can think of but you have to tell it to do so.

Thanks.

I know how to use the dither function, but I was just curious if Sound Forge automatically dithered when you burn a CD. I guess it doesn't really matter, I was just curious because I absent mindedly did this and it didn't sound bad. Also, when saving a file, you can choose a lower bit rate, etc. but does this dither or just truncate?

I believe Sound Forge always dithers, it never truncates, but I'm not 100% sure. And it will happily allow you to burn a 24 bit file to CD, if you want it 16/44.1 you have to tell it.
