Stupid question, but anyways...........Can I use a regular demagnetizer on a cassette four track? I would think, Why not?

if you're talking about a head demagnetizer, then I'd say yes, you could use it.

However, if you're talking about a large demagnetizer or degausser (size of your palm) then I would say it would be hard to use on a cassette deck... and possibly unsafe depending on what brand and model you're talking about.

what kind (brand/model) demag is it?

don't mean to but in but someone just gave me a demagnetizer and i'm reluctant to use it. it's branded radio shack and is very light weight. the teac demagnetizer that i used to have was about the same size but much heftier. is this thing junk? i'd be using it on 2 track 1/4" rtr.

Those aren't very powerful. Ok for cassette… maybe. Radio Shack had several different models over the years. None I’m familiar with seemed up to the task. Does it have a watt or amp rating?

The good news is they are so weak you won’t hurt anything by using it. The bad news is you can’t be sure you’ve done anything but waste your time.

I can only recommend the TEAC E-3 or Annis Han-D-Mag for professional use.

it's radio shack (realistic) cat# 44-211. i see that you mentioned it as one to avoid in a previous thread.

Might work for cassette... sorta, but I would invest in a better one for open reel.
