no it is a stereo send to the usb port on your computer.

You won't find many USB interfaces with more than about two channels, and you really shouldn't consider any hardware that tries. USB is very bad at dealing with large amounts of isochronous traffic because it was designed to be an inexpensive bus, and thus the controllers are dumb as dirt.

As a result of this design decision, the CPU has to do a lot more work to support high speed communication. It can do it, but it does so at a very high cost in terms of CPU overhead. As such, USB is wholly unsuited to large flows of data requiring real-time performance such as handling large numbers of audio channels.

As a general rule, for more than 2 channels, you should use FireWire if at all possible. PCI audio cards are an option, but I don't generally recommend them except for small, low-end setups (e.g. 2 channels) because it is legacy bus that is being phased out in favor of PCI Express (PCIe) which is not backwards compatible with existing PCI peripherals.

There are two versions of the Multimix USB.
One with USB 1.1 (the one you were talking about, sends stereo mix)
One with USB 2.0 (Records each input independent plus stereo mix. I think 10 tracks in the case of the Multimix 8)
Or there is also the firewire versions, which is the same as USB 2.0 (even in price I think), but Firewire has better stability than USB.
However, I'm going to use the USB 2.0 since my laptop doesn't have firewire :(
