Question about 1/4" input jack on Ibanez guitar

I have an Ibanez rg7621 7 string guitar that has recently started shorting out. I opened up the guitar assuming that that the jack itself just needed to be bent to make a tighter connection (cable feels a little loose when inserted ). I have done this numerous times on my Gibson guitars. At any rate, this is the only Ibanez I have ever owned and I was surprised to find a barrel type connector that is much longer than your typical 1/4" guitar jack. So this brings me to my question. The contact points inside the "barrel" have obviously become more spread out than they should and it isn't holding the cables connector as snugly as it should. Is there anyway to get in this thing and bend the contacts back or is it toast? If I need to replace, does Guitar Satan carry these things? Is it an Ibanez specific jack? I have owned a lot of guitars and never come across one quite like this. Anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

thanks in advance!

I hope somebody can answer this because I have an old Ibanez bass guitar that does the same thing also. I took it out and though, wtf?

the output jack will have to be replaced.
it is a really simple fix if you have any experience soldering wires.

Sloan that is the jack style. I suspected that it would have to be replaced but since I had never encountered one of these I thought it was at least worth asking. Soldering is not a problem. I just need to find out if they carry these locally at Guitar Center. Thanks again for the info guys!

I have an old Ibanez bass that did the same thing, and had the barrel type connector, I just put in a new typical guitar jack worked fine.

I made a tool for the purpose of bending jack pins without having to open a guitar up. Just bend a small hook on the tip of an ice pic and insert it into the jack hole, hook the pin and bend it toward the center a little. So far it's worked on every jack I've tried it on, including barrel jacks and stereo headphone jacks and input jacks on amps, it's a lot faster than removing the access panel or the jack. Eventually you will need to replace the jack but this is a "quick fix" to keep you going until you get a replacement jack.

neat trick, I will have to give give that a try... I bought an assortment of picks from Harbour Freight Tools for removing o rings not long ago and one of those picks would be ideal for just that purpose.
I would have never of thought of that:rolleyes:
thanks for the heads up!
that is one heck of a time saving tip:cool:

Those Ibanez jacks are notoriously crappy. I've even replaced some on brand new units. Buy a nice Switchcraft barrel jack replacement and you should be set for a long while.
