I had heard rumors they were coming back and I am glad to see this. Does anyone know where it is made and has anyone used it yet?

I think I stumbled on to an old website. Anyone hear anything about this?

Quantegy was working on a comeback in '09, but it was for naught.

Yeah, they were supposed to bring back a few of the formulations, incl 456 and GP9 but all I've seen so far is small mentions of the GP9 availability on their site and that's about all. Not sure if it's current production, new old stock or what. Their online store is down. If they're working on something, they should do a better job of at least either following through or getting the people better informed about their current offerings or what's going on. It's been what seems like a few years+ since they first spoke of reintroducing this tape. Never say never but it doesn't look good.

Their old tape plant in Alabama is closed, and has been for sale for several years now, if not already sold. I know that Quantegy didn't re-buy their own plant if they were selling it off. Their old machinery was the first to be liquidated and sold to the highest bidder.

The likelihood of them starting fresh production is damn near zero, as it means they'd either
1.) Have to re-buy their old equipment
2.) Pay someone else to manufacture their own tape (i.e. someone who bought all their tape manufacturing equipment)
3.) Purchase brand new tape manufacturing equipment.

Neither of these are likely scenarios. I think what was happening a few years ago was a NOS sell-off. They came across a bunch of GP9 stock that never got sold from old inventory and were trying to play it off as "new"... yes it was new, but not that new.

Their online store took my money and never sent me tape. I had to file a Paypal dispute.

When was this?

Probably 2 years ago IIRC.

May or may not be relevant now, but I would not buy from them directly if they claimed to be selling tape. If there is clear evidence they are manufacturing again, then maybe.

According to the North American sales rep for RMGI (with whom I spoke several years ago), RMGI ended up with a good amount of the Quantegy production equipment from the auction.

Yep, nothing left in Opelika. The best option now is to outsource to Asia where there's still a lot of tape manufacturing equipment. But that's the best option for a manufacturer, not necessarily for consumers. Korea would be best bet out of the possible locations. Peter the Hutt waited a bit to long to sell the Quantegy brand name though. That ship has done sailed.
