People,

Looking to switch Web Hosting services. My existing service only streams RealAudio; & I would like to move to a service that offers Windows Media as well . . . perhaps even a service that is tailored to digital musicians' websites.

Any tips will be appreciated.

Thanks,

mark4man

I am using windowsmedai encoder 9 to convert the wave files to .WMA files and then using a .WAX redirect to stream the music. It worksreally well. Check it out if you get a chance www.songwritingworld.com

Mark,

Tell me more.

Thanks,

BTW - Who's on guitar on "Hard Rock Cafe"? Nice!

Also: Please check out my stuff; & tell me how it streams for you. The tracks are all SureStream, meaning they should stream at the user's bandwidth (encoded to .rm in Sound Forge 4.0.) But, for my connection, top rate is 97. haven't figured that one out yet . . . maybe I just need Real Producer.

Actually that is me on the guitar, I put all the parts together using Sonar. It is fairly easy to stream windows media files, you can get Windows media encoder for free at microsofts website. What you do from there is convert your wave files and then create a text file with notepad. The text file must have the address where your .wma file is example http://www.yourwebsite.com/thenameofyoursong.wax I think there is a website you can look at to learn more details how to do this. After you get all this uploaded to your website youjust create a linkto your main web page pointingto the .WAX file and then it will open windows media and start streaming the .wma file.

Project 1

Listening to it right now sounds pretty good. Is that you singing on Golden Rainbow?? My fiance says you sound like Jeff Healey!!

Mark,

Thanks for the compliment. Actually . . . he sounds like me! (just kiddin'.)

Didn't realize you were talking about HTTP Streaming [&; the trouble with me is . . . I took half the summer off to study web dev; & since my dementia is so bad (I was the last guy to leave Woodstock) . . . I forgot half the stuff I knew about digital audio!]

Correct me if I'm wrong . . . but, at the end of an HTTP Stream, the audio has been stored on the user's hard disk?

If that's the case, I will still need to stay with Live Streaming (RTSP . . . from a Windows Media Server.)

The band's plan had been that we wanted to offer the entire catalog in real time, as opposed to free snippets.

I've shopped around a bit today; & found a decent Web Hosting plan (with WMS.) Time to consult the troops.

Thanks again,

Streaming

I dont believe that the stream file does stay on the hard disk. If you have played oneof my songs try to find it on your hard disk. I know that windows media player links itself to the song. But I am pretty sure it does not stay on the hard drive. Let me know what you find.

Thanks

Mark

Mark,

Yeah, the .wma file goes right into Temporary Internet Files (as does the meta file, .wax.)

Windows Media Player even gives the user a percentage of download meter.
