Just wondering if anyone here has used the mics from S.E electonics and what you thought. I use Rode mics right now and was wondering if they were compareable. Specifically the SE3500 tube mic that looks like the C-12VR compared to the Rode NTK. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have an SE3500... (by-the-way, the SE3500 is not a tube mic) and it's an ok broadcast type mic... I think Howard Sterns uses one too... oh, and it sounds different than any of my Rode mic's (NT1, NT2, NT3, NT5).

Sorry , I meant the SE 5500 tube mic. Thanks for the response though ! Would you say they are on par with Rode , or with Studio Project stuff. I know I should probably just wait and save to get a higher end mic, but so far I love my Rode NT2 and Avalon 737 combination.

I think the SE and Studio Projects mic's are in the same ball park as far as cheap mic quality goes.

Also , do any of you run a tube mic into a tube pre like the Avalon?

the 5500 and 5600 actually sound damn good...they aren't cheap sounding mics at all.. damn i had the old se5000 and it was much better than the akg solidtube

Go here http://www.thelisteningsessions.com/sessions.htm and listen to the sessions. Here, you can compare the SE mic against several of the other mics you're asking about. I think the SE mics souund pretty darn good. In Session 2 there's an example of the SE 3600 (about $170) on male vocal that I think sounds great! The only reason I don't own it is because day-care is getting all my spare cash right now.

Hi,
I know this isn't the mic you're asking about, but as a general seal of approval on SE Electronics, I've owned the SE1's for about 6 months and used them with a lot of good results on acoustic guitars, drum overheads and piano mics. Great mics for the price.

Anton
