I Just Boguth A "m-audio Audiophile 2496" And I Have It Hooked Up From Mic+preamp+compressor+audiophile 2496 But I Have A Problem. Im New To My Compressor And The Audio Phile So When I Try To Record Vocals The Meter Is Going Really High But Its Not Even That Loud......im Not Sure If Its Because The Software To Control The M-audio Card Is Hard For Me To Understand Or If I Have Something Not Hooked Up Right....can Someone Please Help?

is it the same scenario with the compressor out of the chain? do you have the make up gain turned up on the compressor?

im not really sure what the make up gain is?....on the out put gain knob if i turn it up to +20 it sounds loud enough but it goes way over 0db in the recording software

the output control is your makeup gain. it sounds like you have some monitoring issues to me. in the m-audio control panel, set your inputs and outputs at the same level. turn down the compressor output to start with and then turn it up until your peaks are reaching well below 0 in your software.

here's what i'd do. take the compressor out of the chain. get your sound card ins/outs at the same level. adjust your pre until your peaking below 0 in your software. add the compressor to the chain and adjust accordingly.

i tried that now.....when i turn the compressor on the peakes go even higher when im recording....when i move the knobs around in the compressor the peaks go down but it sounds too low

i think it might be the compressor? cuz i moved like evry knob and the peks stay the same unless i turn the volume knob up or down

if you're seeing loud peaks but not hearing them, it's a monitoring issue.

well the sounds pretty loud but i would still have turn it up a little bit more so it can sound right with the beat....but if i turn it up its gonna clip....

oh ok...so when im done with it and i exprot thr whole thing do i just normalize it back up?...by the way thanks for all the help
