Im interested in getting the 10Q, i just have a small question. What are the 8 Outputs for? Like.... how do you use them, or what would you use them for?

just curious, why do you want the Q10 if you don't know what all the outputs would be used for?

Lots of recording stuff is done outside the PC (using external effects units, compressors etc), and you want to be able to route your tracks out of the PC to do various things to them. Some people record to tape after editing all their tracks on the PC, and want to mix them with an analog mixer. Like I said, if you can't think of why you would need all those outputs, why are you about to spend that much money? Do you need that many inputs, or would a 2-in/out system be enough for you?

You could use those out puts for all kinds of things. Like maybe you would take 1 and 2 and use them to send a stereo mix to your monitors. You could send 3 and 4 to a tape deck. You could use 5 and 6 to send out to an amplifer in another room, like a listening room.

I use mine this way:

1-2 go to the amp which powers my monitors

3-4 go to my stereo headphone amp
5-8 go to the mono inputs on my headphone amp and I assign in the Aardvark software particular instruments to them. So the drummer says he wants more bass.... I assign the bass input to output 5 and jack that up on the headphone channel assigned to the drummer. The singer wants more of his voice....

You get the picture.

When I got my Q10 I thought, "What the F^(# am I going to use these for?" But I find my self using 6 to 8 of them anytime I record a group of people.

I'm like jdier, I use two of them to go to a headphone unit so I can have up to 8 people with headphones on able to hear while we record drums. At first I didn't see much use for them, but as I add gear I see their usefulness.

ANother thing I thought I would never use but has come up large is inputs 9 & 10, the digital inputs. I ended up getting a T.C. Electronic M300 so I could have some better verbs and stuff than what comes stock with Cubase SX, and by using those I am able to rout to add effects without leaving the digital domain. Since I don't have this huge rack of stuff that I use, being able to keep it all in the box has really worked nice for me.

I love my Q10 and can't say enough good stuff about it.
