I've been reading through posts and doing research while deciding on what mics to buy and before I bought anything I thought I'd check in for some pointers. To record guitars I'd do well to get a SM57? Is their that much of a difference between the standard and beta versions of the SM57&58's. What would be comparable and sound decent for a bass? Now for vocals I'd like to have a true to bright sounding mic and also have a mic that would sound dark. My voice is pretty average in that its not too deep or too light but could be if I wanted (in short I have pretty decent range). I've seen the C1 (which has pretty good reviews) for $199 so I thought about trying one out. Would I be right in saying this could be a pretty true sounding mic and if so what are some mics that would sound darker. I dont want to go nuts yet and spend more then 300 on any one mic so if you could give me some ideas on good vocal mics and their effects on a voice (in the below $300 range-unless theres too good a deal to pass up) id appreciate it.

True / Bright: Marshall mxl 2003 or v93.

Dark: Oktava mk319

The C1 can be on the darker side or the lighter side, depending on the voice.

Were you looking for a condensor or dynamic?

I noticed you said that you looked at the C1, but that was all.

What Chessrock said. MK319 is real dark. I have never heard anything sound "dark" through my C3, but maybe I haven't hit the right voice yet.-Richie
