Purchase new cables or new compressor first?

Just trying to figure something out here and would like your input on it.

I currently have a BlueMax Compressor and I do think it is a good compressor, although it does color the sound of the input device a bit. I recently bought a JoeMeek MQ3 and yesterday picked up a Delta DMP-3 mic pre. My thinking is to use the MQ3 for different "colored" sounds, and to use the DMP3 for clean sounds since I heard that it is pretty damn transparent.

Since the MQ3 already has a compressor built in I doubt I will be using the BlueMax w/ it. Since the DMP3 does not have a compressor built in I would want to use the BlueMax in conjunction when needed.

Nevertheless, I have been thinking about picking up the RNC to use with the DMP3 since I have heard that the RNC is pretty transparent as well and would hopefully give me that clean sound I want.

Unfortunately since I am relatively broke I have to make some sacrifices. Either sell the BlueMax and pick up an RNC. OR....keep the BlueMax and pick up some decent cables. Currently I am using HOSA Brand and could definetley do better.

So what do you all think? Are getting better cables than the ones I have more important than getting the Compressor? I'm sure I will be picking up the other eventually, just trying to get an idea on what would be more beneficial right now.

Thanks all!

You will by no means notice any difference with the new cables on your current setup unless your current cables are faulty. Get the RNC if your looking for better quality. Dont expect the cables to be a magic bullet. In my experience expensive cables really only make a difference in more extreme conditions and environments where cheaper cables start to fail.

Yeah I have heard that a time or two, but I have also heard that higher quality cables make a world of difference as well......

hmmm....

Get the compressor!!!
In a home set up the cables prob wont make much difference!

Super cables will make a "world" of difference if the "world" you are talking about is a very subtle difference audible only to a very few...
