Anyone have one, or have any playing time on one? I'd appreciate any comments you have to share.

damn, why do you have to try to pimp carvin crap every single time a PRS is mentioned around here? Youre becoming the DJL of the guitar forum.

zaphod, check out http://forums.birdsandmoons.com/forum/index.php? for some people who can give great answers to your PRS questions. In short, there's nothing that sounds quite like a SAS does. It's pretty unique, and I'd recommend highly playing one or a few before buying one.

Mostly 'cuz not too many know about 'em. I've got two and I really like them. What's DJL pimp over there?

I've had a couple, and they are fine guitars. Will get a "Strat-like" quack, and a good humbucker sound. Very much a "Swiss Army" type of guitar...does everything well, but is not "the best" in either genre. But then again, it fully lives up to what it was designed to be.

Which is...? That's part of my question, I think - there are so many tone combinations available. Looks like it could make a fine jack-of-all trades tool.

I note that it uses the McCarty humbuckers, which give more of a vintage tone than some of the more aggressive units. Do you like the humbucker tone?

...And apl, thanks for the Carvin suggestion. ;)
