Returned from the dead
anyone have any experience with one of these?
Santana isn't exactly my cup of tea but I've got a shot at a pretty good deal on one and wondered if any of you might have a comment on its build and maybe the tone of the santana SE

Never played the Santana SE, but I really dug the Singlecut SE I picked up recently. QC was a little uneven, but thankfully it ranged from "decent enough for the price" to "bloody excellent" so while ideally you'd want to play before buying I doubt you'd get a real lemon. I also don't know if the pickups in the Singlecut are the same as in the Santana, but the ones I have are shockingly good for budget stock pickups - I'd probably leave them in there even if budget wasn't a concern. The Mushok baritone pickups I guess aren't quite as good (I know a few guys who've owned or played both who all rave about the former but hated the bari pickups) so you never know, but there's a good chance they're the same and that they'll sound excellent.

Additionally, after-the-sale customer support was quite good - one of the guys who does QC for the SE line happens to post to a message board I do, and he was able to help me out with some questions related to the stud threading on the bridge when I wanted to replace it with a Tone Pros locking intonatable wraparound, which was a huge help. :)

I have an Santana SE that I picked up used for a little under $200USA. I personally like it and enjoy playing it.

It is a lower line PRS - but it appears well built, has a smooth, comfortable neck and plays well.

Tone wise, it gets the range of general "humbucker" tones - similar to my SG, however, it plays nicer than the SG (thinner neck).

I read some people slamming the Santana SE (some people suggest PRS didn't put their name on the axe because the wanted to distance themselves). Well, I don't beleive that - there was a ton on PRS advertising when the Santana SE first came out.

As always - trust you hands and ears!!!!

Well I never got an email or call or text back so I assume the guitar was either sold or the owner decided not to sell.

I guess the search continues....
