that vocal was plugged straight into a fostex rackmount recorder. those vocals were transferred via SPDIF to a Delta 1010. but that was all done in 16 bit 48K.

you really wanna check out the joe Meek VC1 / VC1Q. They are AMAZING. it's worth it just for the MASSIVE headroom and wonderfull sounding compressor. the headroom lets you run snares through it for example and not worry too much about transients clipping the unit.

wonderfull pre/compressor/eq/enhancer.

the DBX 286 is quite an allright pre aswell. not full of life as the meek, but the dbx sounds wicked sometimes on electric guitar cabs.

Ozraves, what sound card did you cut that vocal on and what software too, if you please.

I liked the sound of it and want to see what other variables are in place before I opt for the Audio buddy.

the soundcard is the m-audio audiophile.

the software was acid pro 3.0.

everything your hear was done in acid with the exception of the steel guitar, which was a loop imported from a session i did a few years ago at a commercial facility.

Would you explain Fm synthesis a little? I know SoundForge has that function, don't know how to take advantage of it...

FM synthesis is a type of musical synthesizer. The first popular FM synthesizer was probably the Yamaha DX7. Myself, I've never been a fan of FM synthesis and prefer the vibe of a couple of other different approaches such as wavetable synthesis.

fm is awesome!! if you're looking for wierd retrotones, go fm. fm has some great bass sounds.

the synthesis in soundforge you are talking about is for test tones

got to listen to your original mp3 today through my monitors. i don't think you'd gain by changing anything.

audio technica should pay you money just as an example of an at3035.

the next mic i was going to buy was a blue baby bottle but i think i'm getting an at3035 first.

yeah man, get an at3035. even if you've got a bigger budget, it's a mic you need!!

btw, there was only the smallest amount of EQ on that vocal, just a tiny cut at about 250hz as far as i can remember.
