i dont know if this is the right place for it but... i have Protools 6.4 and i was wondering if anyone new what Protools 7 had to offer that 6.4 does not.... i mean i kinda know more or less what it has but i wanted to hear the opinions of home recording individuals. if yall could please help me out...

THANX.

the biggest changes would be 5 more sends - F through J, which is useful because you can see your, say, headphone mix send as well as a reverb send simultaneously. It's nice.

Second change, instrument tracks - integrated MIDI and auxiliary tracks so you don't have 2 for each MIDI instrument... Much less clutter and confusion

cheers
saburo

thanx

thank you... you were very helpful... now as far as plug-ins go... does anyone know how or where to get cheap or free plug-ins for protools?
if someone could help me out... im in need of desperate help with these type of things... i just started out and well... the $ problem is really thick right now...

help please.

Do NOT upgrade to v7. I repeat DO NOT. Frankly there isn't much to warrant getting it. You can get the free EQIII and Dynamics III plugs that came out with later versions for free and I'm 99% sure they'll work in v6.4. I've also been experiencing problems with my MIDI control surface (motor mix) and Digidesign have verified it's a problem introduced in v7. I've since switched back to 6.9 and haven't really missed anything.

BUT, the real reason not to upgrade is Digi is releasing a bundle that includes 48 stereo tracks (as opposed to the 32 voices now), multi-track Beat Detective for LE, along with several other plugins and (drum roll please)... v7.1. That means if you want to get any of those things, you have to buy it in a bundle that will include an version upgrade, which means if you up to v7 now you are basically are wasting your money. Digi may decide later to release things in that bundle individually, but for now I would not do it.

the thing is, reshp...in order to upgarde to the 48 track version (Music Production Toolkit), you have to have 7.0 installed first. So upgrading to version 7 is a must.
I think the opposite as reshp, and say that version 7 is a plus. And even if you don't decide to get the extra toolkit after, then you are still getting extra benefits that you didn't have in version 6.4.
6.4 was a very stable version (the one I have now too), and even though I don't have it I would love to upgrade to 7.

It's only $75

I like 7... No problems yet! Seems much more stable to me.... :D

dynamics3 and eq3 both work on 6.4, both really nice. Hey I hate to piggy back but don't you have to have tiger to run pt7.

So digi's response to people who got the v7 upgrade plus complaining that they wasted their money when the toolkit came out was to make everyone pay for v7 before v7.1 would work?

"what's that? you think you got screwed over? no you didn't get screwed over, it's just that we kinda made a mistake and forgot to screw everybody over. Now the problem is fixed. All is fair now"
That's great. Really, I can feel how much they care for their customers. I'm feeling something else there... I can't quite place it... oh wait, that's the feeling of Digi bending me over and sticking it in some more. Fuck digi.

lol, I understand your frustration but also realize that the toolkit is not a new verison of Pro Tools...it's just an add on. Much like the MP3 option, or DV Toolkit, or Digitranslator. At least that's the way I see Digi is marketing it. But I can see the confusion people are having because of how it directly affects how Pro Tools acts (ie. track count).

7.1 is still going to work I think, with a free update. The Toolkits that you can buy will just have it included in them when they come out.

ok...?

so where can i get those two ???

ohh and thanx for the whole v6.4 and v7... really helpfull... makes a whole lotta' sense.

that would be kinda nice... just opening up just a midi insted of the aux then midi then an audio then sending them to busses (if you wanna use reasons redrum or whatever)...

v7 sound intresting to me... but i dont know... if im going to me loosing out on anything worth having if i do upgrade...

You should be able to get them at digidesign.com, go to duc.digidesign.com there should be some stickies with the proper links.
