i understand fully the hardware end of things, but how different is the software if you get LE and the dv tools kit which bumps it up to 48 tracks and blah blah. i'm a current logic user and like it, but frankly the editing is a lot easier and more extensive in protools. i also was taught on protools in school, so it has a small place in my heart. i never really looked at it after school though since the hd systems are so ridiculously expensive. but with the new features they keep adding to LE, it's looking like a viable option

The main difference is track count and system performance. If you have a really fast computer you could get close to hd performance but you'll still be limited to 48 tracks, also some people claim TDM plugs are sonically superior to AS and RTAS but some will also claim they're the same. So if you can deal with 48 tracks(but still have the ability to load them up with plugs) you're essentially getting identical software. Shit I almost forgot, keep in mind PTLE doesn't have automatic delay compensation.

well i checked out the lack of delay compensation mentioned on the protools site. they're saying it's a none issue...but i wouldn't doubt that's a bunch of marketing crap...how severe is it really? logic has compensation and i know if i turn it off...well...i don't like thinking about when i turn it off. ;)

ADC is a problem in LE. I've used a few plugs already that have very noticable delay, and nudging can become a real pain. If you stick with plugs that don't have that problem you'll be fine. I've worked on an LE rig for 3 years and haven't ever really been slowed down by not having ADC.

it can get pretty severe. and despite what many critics will say, there IS a similar form of delay compensation.
If the delay (in samples) is less than your buffer setting....Pro Tools will take care of it. Any more than that and you will start noticing a delay. So normal plugins like EQs and such are fine. It's when you get into the larger ones that it becomes a problem

HD has some more editing capabilities (and is more stronger on the audio for video side of things)....really it would take me awhile to list them because I'm not even exactly sure what has what now with the new versions. But you can see for yourself on some of them.

I never recommend HD to anyone unless they can warrant the purchase by having enough clients to PAY for it.
