Protools FREE won't run in win98....................

just did a fresh install dual XP/98 for the sole reason of being able to run protools free. Installed it, it starts up fine, but when I go to create a new session, it does nothing, won't let me type a new filename or anything. When i try to load the sample session from digidesign, it crashes.
Can anyone point me to a patch/forum/tutorial/etc that deals with problems in setting up protools free??

that may be, but it also may be a way for me to learn a software program that I might be able to get a career in and get out of my godawful current job.
 
Win98 SE.

Thanks for the link, I'll check DMA and AIN, but I'm pretty sure they are set correctly.
